چکیده

Tetrad sterility, in which only clumps of four premature pollen grains are released from anthers, has been observed some modern potato cultivars. It is a form cytoplasmic male sterility caused by the cytoplasm derived Mexican tetraploid species Solanum stoloniferum Schltdl. & Bouché., an important source resistance to Potato virus Y breeding. However, since S. highly polymorphic, tetrad-sterility-causing unknown among diverse accessions. In this study, we directly crossed 24 accessions with 4x tuberosum and obtained 39 hybrids 12 Nineteen six showed tetrad either D/γ- or W/γ-type cytoplasm, were triploid, tetraploid, hexaploid. The was not necessarily associated sterility. Sequence comparisons 17 mitochondrial genes their intergenic regions revealed length polymorphism region between rpl5 rps10, amplified band 859 bp This specific causing named TSCsto. 859-bp will be useful diagnostic marker for identifying TSCsto

RAPD analysis of the interspecific somatic hybrids: Solanum bulbocastanum (+) S. tuberosum.

The diploid Mexican species S. bulbocastanum (blb) was used as a source of late blight resistance in somatic hybridization with the potato (S. tuberosum, tbr) dihaploid H-8105. The produced 2x blb (+) 2x tbr H-8105 somatic hybrids did not retain the blb parent's characteristic high resistance to P. infestans. The revealed aneuploidy of blb (+) tbr H-8105 hybrids indicated a possible loss of ind...

Identification of mitotic chromosomes of tuberous and non-tuberous solanum species (Solanum tuberosum and Solanum brevidens) by GISH in their interspecific hybrids.

GISH (genomic in situ hybridization) was applied for the analysis of mitotic chromosome constitutions of somatic hybrids and their derivatives between dihaploid clones of cultivated potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) (2n = 2x = 24, AA genome) and the diploid, non-tuberous, wild species Solanum brevidens Phil. (2n = 2x = 24, EE genome). Of the primary somatic hybrids, both tetraploid (2n = 4x) and he...

Respiration rate of potatoes (Solanum tuberosum L

This work investigated the effects of soft rot (Erwinia carotovora) on respiration rate of potatoes stored at three storage temperatures (5, 10, and 15 C) covering temperature ranges commonly encountered in storage. Five treatments were evaluated: healthy (H), healthy with holes (HW), inoculation with no incubation (I0), inoculation with 24 hr incubation (I1), and inoculated with 48 hr incubati...

Production of interspecific hybrids between commercial cultivars of the eggplant (Solanum melongena L.) and its wild relative S. torvum.

Interspecific hybrids between cultivars of eggplant (Solanum melongena L.) and its wild relative S. torvum, which has disease resistance and desirable traits for crop improvement, were obtained by cross-hybridization and embryo rescue. Twenty-one hybrid progenies were obtained and examined based on morphological traits, RAPD and ISSR markers. Five of them were confirmed to be true interspecific...

Glycoalkaloid profile in potato haploids derived from solanum tuberosum-S. bulbocastanum somatic hybrids.

Cultivated and wild potato species synthesize a wide variety of steroidal glycoalkaloids (GA) that may affect either human health or biotic stress resistance. Therefore, GA composition must be a major criterion in the evaluation of breeding products when species genomes are merged and/or manipulated. This work reports the results of GA analysis performed on unique haploid (2n=2x=24) plants obta...
